“I believe a concert is successful, if afterwards, people feel a strong desire to call their parents and friends, to spend more time with their families, to give a smile to somebody… If the world becomes a little bit better, it means that I have conducted well.”

    Konstantin Chudovsky

Principal Conductor of Teatro Municipal de Santiago de Chile Konstantin Chudovsky is a young multiple award-winning Russian opera, ballet and symphony conductor. In 2011 the Financial Times Magazine mentioned him among 25 Russians to watch: “Young conductor Konstantin Chudovsky is one of the country’s movers and shakers.” The magazine El Mercurio praised Chudovsky for his extraordinary conducting abilities in opera where “without score, he elaborated every vocal and instrumental detail, was subtle even in the most exuberant sound expression, distinguished musical frames and kept an absolute correlation with the regie. Just remarkable.” Speaking six languages fluently (Russian, English, German, Italian, Spanish, and French) has enabled him to master a wide operatic repertoire, and his extraordinary musical memory allows him to conduct music by heart without consulting a full score.

Recent highlights include the opening of the Youth Programme of the Theater an der Wien with a production of Rossini’s La cambiale di matrimonio with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra at the Vienna Kammeroper, followed by a successful production of the ballet La Cenerentola. In 2014 Chudovsky was conducting Il Trovatore in Limoges and Cinderella at the Opera de Lyon in Reims. In March 2016 he debuted with the State Academic Symphony Orchestra (E. Svetlanov Orchestra) and was re-invited by the Ekaterinburg State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre to lead the productions of Verdi’s Rigoletto and Puccini’s Madame Butterfly. In the season 2017/2018 he will follow a re-invitation of the Svetlanov Orchestra to conduct all Tchaikovsky symphonies in Kuweit, and of the Opera de Lyon to conduct the Cinderella Ballet during a tour of Oman.

“He has genuine, full-bodied musicianship. With small, sensitive gestures (without a baton), he sets the music in motion, imbuing it with emotion, blending colours exquisitely”.
    NZZ 17.12.2014
"Chudovsky, conducting the entire program by heart, demonstrated his sovereign dominion of the pieces".
EL MERCURIO, ABRIL 2014. Andante para cuerdas (Leng), Simphony n.° 6 (Beethoven), Spring & The Bells (Rachmaninoff).
"The Teatro Municipal named this concert “Gathering of Giants”. The title is not an unjustified one because of Brahms’ concert summit position; because of the work that followed it, the Symphony No. 6, op. 54 by Shostakovich; and because of Konstantin Chudovsky’s both artistic and physical height; he moved at ease while conducting this piece of his compatriot, without the podium and by heart".
EL MERCURIO, JULY 2013. Piano Concierto n.° 1 (Brahms), Symphony n.° 6 (Shostakovich) • Santiago Philharmonic Orchestra.
"This beautiful work also had a high musical achievement. Young director Konstantin Chudovsky, capable of leading a work like this without score, attended every vocal and instrumental detail, was subtle even in the most exuberant sound expression, distinguished musical frames and kept an absolute correlation with the regie. Just outstanding".
EL MERCURIO, JULY 2011. Boris Godunov • Santiago Philharmonic Orchestra & Municipal Choir.
“Konstantin Chudovsky’s athletic conducting got the most from every player and singer, and he had the Wiener KammerOrchester savouring the crescendos and taking care of nuances”.
BACHTRACK, OCTOBER 2012. La Cambiale di Matrimonio • Wiener Kammeroper.
“If one had to point out the best of this production, beyond the high performance showed by the Santiago Ballet, the very first place would certainly be for maestro Chudovsky and the Philharmonic, with a musical service whose quality made history for its sound and strength".
LAS ÚLTIMAS NOTICIAS, JUNE 2013. The Swan Lake • Santiago Philharmonic Orchestra & Santiago Ballet.
